About 4500 of Muslim men, women and children in the city of Gatineau, Canada, are about to see their dream come true. For so many years, devoted Muslims from Ahl Assunah Wa-Aljamaa are yearning for a Masjid to fulfill their religious duties as well as to build a strong community and to preserve the future generations by having a Quran and Arabic school for the children. The Masjid will also serve to show the true image of Islam and Muslims.
Here is some useful information about the status of the Gatineau Masjid:
- The project has been supported by the municipal council and the local politicians as well as the people of the city of Gatineau. All the necessary authorizations and permits were obtained
- The project of the Masjid has started in a strategic location; it will be the first Masjid in this city.
- The project is managed by a non-profit organization named “The Outaouais Islamic Centre” which is a charitable organization registered with the federal and the provincial governments. It represents all the Muslim community in the city.
- The total cost of the project is 1.7 million dollars. 800,000 dollars has already been paid by the end of June 2008.
- So far, what has been realized in the project was supported financially by the contributions of the local Muslim community alone.
- The contractor has agreed to finish the work before Ramadan starts insha-Allah under the condition that we pay him in the next few months afterwards.
- Since there is no support from authorities and the resources of our community are limited, we are counting on our brothers and sisters everywhere to lend us a helping hand, may Allah help them in this life and in the hereater.
