The mosque was opened, but the project is not finished yet!

Assalamo alaikum warahmatullah,

August 31st – The national capital region has witnessed a great event: the
opening of the new Gatineau Mosque, where the first congregational Asr
prayer was held. Since then, regular prayers and Taraweeh have been taking
place in such a wonderfully peaceful air-conditioned prayer hall, led by
Sheikh Mohammad coming specially from Libya; he has one of the best
recitation styles ever heard in the region. Please come and listen, you
will love it!

The beauty of the building and the spiritual atmosphere within the mosque
should not, however, lead us to believe that the project is over. Indeed,
while the construction work is almost over, we have been able to pay for
only half of the cost, and outstanding debts of approximately 900 000 $
are still shadowing the atmosphere, with substantial bills still to come.
Furthermore, so as to deliver the mosque before Ramadan 1st, the
contractor has given us the challenge of paying him in installments on a
regular basis. He has been able to fulfill his part of the agreement; we
need to fulfill ours. The next instalment to be paid before October 15th
is 250,000$. Should we be unable to meet the challenge, Allah forbid, the
building can be put on a legal lien.

Each Muslim is called upon to help pay the debts of the house of Allah,
the best debt payment you’ll ever have to make in your life, enabling you
to get the reward here and most importantly in the hereafter.

Knowing that our rewards in the holy month of Raman are multiplied by tens
and hundreds, please don’t miss the opportunity of donating for the Masjid
to the best of your capacity.

May Allah accept your sadaqa, your fasting and all your good deeds. Ameen!

The mosque is officially opened!

Salam Alikom Wa-Rahmatu Allah Wa-Barakatoh

Brothers and Sisters we are happy to inform you that Elhamdulleh we have officially opened the mosque on August 31, 2008. The opening was accompanied with a BBQ event at 2:00 pm where the muslim community of Gatineau was gathered to celibrate the event. The first prayer in the mosque was the Asr prayer on Sunday Augest 31, 2008. Here is a picture of the mosque:

Also, we have changed the way we are presenting the donation counter on the right side of the page to reflect the debts that the project is facing and the installments that need to be paid to the contractor.

The latest updates!

ssalamu alaikum warahmatullah,

It is a pleasure to update you on the mosque situation. Friday was the day
to provide the contractor with a sum of 200 thousands dollars in order to
go ahead with the construction work. Alhamdulillah, at about 12:30 pm, we
were able to give him the total amount required. We thank the almighty
Allah for helping us to meet this deadline, and in fact by His help we
have never missed a deadline. The sum of 200K was collected as follows:
50K was given to us as a loan (Qard Hassan) from a Muslim organisation in
Ottawa, 29K was a tax reimbursement (GST), and more than 120K was direct
donations through paypal, by mail or direct deposit from the generous
brothers and sisters who heard our call; may Allah reward in this life and
in the hereafter and protect their families. Eeverything is on track now
and we are doing our best to have the mosque ready by Ramadan insha-Allah.

As for the next phase, we are legally bound to pay another considerable
amount by October 15. Indeed, we have to come up with the amount of
250,000 dollars by that date, and we are counting on Allah and then your
generosity to help us meet this deadline. Please don’t let us down, may
Allah be with you and grant you all your wishes.

Elhamdulleh we are getting closer to the needed amount!

Elhamdulleh we have received a very good amount of donations since the last update. We have collected a total of $78857.86 Elhamdulleh. This amount includes the tax return from the goverment in addition to the donations through paypal and variuos cheques that has been sent to us!

So, this is the total Amount that we have collected since the day we have started the blog: $141,723.46. Now, we have a couple of days before the first deadline, which is August 15th, 2008 where we should pay the contractor $200,000.

Therefore, please continue on donating and spreading the news about the mosque’s status. May Allah reward you all, and bless you and your efforts.

New counter update!

We have just updated the donations counter. Elhamdulleh our balance has increaseb by $3110.75 since the last update. Jazakom Allah khair for your donations and efforts to get this project completed. However, there we are still falling behind.

We need to collect $200,000 before Augest 15th, 2008. So far, we have collected $62,865.60. Inshallah we will make it but we need your help!

Elhamdulleh we have received some good donations as you can see from the updated counter on the side. Thats great Elhamdulleh, but still we need more money to satisfy the 200,000 needed for August 15th, 2008. Please continue on giving donations and passing on the news about the project, so that everyone donates.

Sorry for the late counter update, but Elhamdulleh the counter is increasing!

Sorry for the late counter update, since we need to deposit the money into the bank account and then get a bank statement plus we had to wait until after the weekend!

Elhamdulleh as you can see the counter is increasing, however, our goal is to collect $200,000 by Augest 15th, 2008 because that is the amount that we are supposed to pay for the contractor by August 15th according to the agreement. We have collected 49,527.85, since we established the blog. So, please spread the word and donate as much as you can!
